Cooking with Kenson Kids: Breakfast for Dinner — Easy Recipes Kids Can Help Make

Breakfast for dinner is a family favorite for a reason — it's fast, it's fun, and almost every part of it can be handed to a kid to help with.

Kid Jobs on Breakfast-for-Dinner Night

  • Cracking eggs (yes, even with a few shell pieces — practice makes perfect)
  • Pouring pancake batter into the pan
  • Adding fruit and toppings
  • Blending smoothies with supervision

A Simple Menu

Scrambled eggs, whole-grain pancakes or waffles, fresh fruit, and a quick smoothie cover protein, carbs, and fruit in under 20 minutes — and every part of it involves a job your child can do independently or with light supervision.

Our Kitchen Skills by Age guide breaks down exactly which tasks fit which age group, so you're not guessing what's safe to hand off.

Breakfast for dinner is low-stakes, low-mess (relatively speaking), and a great weeknight reset when everyone's tired of the usual rotation.

Kid-Friendly Smoothie Recipes

Smoothies are one of the easiest "kid jobs" on breakfast-for-dinner night — little ones can add ingredients and press the button while you supervise the blender. Here are five favorites to try.

Strawberry Banana "Milkshake" (2 servings)

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 banana (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp honey (optional)

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Pour into glasses and serve.

Tropical Sunshine Smoothie (2 servings)

  • 1/2 cup frozen mango
  • 1/2 cup pineapple
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until thick and smooth. Pour into cups and enjoy.

Green Monster Smoothie (2 servings)

  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 apple (peeled and chopped)
  • 1 cup fresh spinach
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 Tbsp peanut butter

Blend the spinach and milk first, then add the remaining ingredients and blend again. Serve and enjoy.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Power Smoothie (2 servings)

  • 1 banana
  • 1 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 Tbsp peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt

Blend all ingredients until creamy, adding ice if you'd like it thicker. Pour into a glass and top with a drizzle of peanut butter.

Purple Blast Smoothie (2 servings)

  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1/2 cup grapes
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 1/4 cup apple juice

Add all ingredients to a blender, blend until smooth, and pour into cups.

Breakfast for dinner is one of those nights everyone wins — it's fast, it's fun, and there's a job for every kid at the table. Pick one recipe to start, let your little ones take the lead on their piece of it, and watch a weeknight meal turn into a memory.
