Get Moving with Kenson Kids: 10 Easy Exercises That Build Fitness Habits in Little Kids
Fitness habits form early, and for preschoolers that doesn't mean laps or reps — it means movement disguised as play. Here are ten easy ones we come back to again and again.
-
Animal walks: Try bear crawls, crab walks, or frog hops to build core strength and play with balance.
-
Balloon volleyball: Keep the balloon off the floor as long as possible to work on hand-eye coordination.

-
Freeze dance: Turn on music and pause it randomly—a fun, classic way to practice agility and body control.
-
Sock skating: Put on fluffy socks and "ice skate" across a hardwood or vinyl floor to work on stability and leg strength.
-
Wall sits: Make it a game to see who can hold a "secret chair" pose against the wall the longest.
-
Couch cushion obstacle course: Set up pillows and cushions to step over, climb on, or weave around safely.
-
Big-movement Simon Says: Call out active prompts like "Simon says jump 5 times, spin in a circle, or stomp like a dinosaur!"
-
Painter's tape balance beam: Place a strip of tape on the floor and practice walking straight line heel-to-toe.
-
Bear hug squats: Squat down, pick up a favorite stuffed animal, stand back up, and give it a big hug.
-
"Beat the timer" tidy-up sprints: Set a 2-minute timer to see how many toys can be put away before time runs out.
A Personal Note
When it came to games, I spent countless hours creating games of my own that my kids could play — scavenger hunts, search games, exploring games, and games built entirely around movement. None of it needed to be fancy. A roll of painter's tape and a stopwatch got us through more afternoons than any toy did.
Eventually, we turned those homemade games into something we could reach for without reinventing them every week. If you want a ready-made option for building movement into your routine, here's what's worked for us:
Turning Movement Into a Daily Habit
For a quick, exercise-based option on busier days, Pick n Roll Movez is a simple roll-and-go game with movement prompts built right in — perfect for the "ten easy exercises" idea above without having to come up with them yourself every time.

But the piece that's made the biggest difference for long-term is turning movement into something visible and trackable. Our Exercise Supplemental Pack is designed to work with our "I Can Do It" My Daily Checklist/Exercise Bundle, so movement becomes a regular part of your child's daily routine — right alongside chores and responsibilities, not something extra you have to remember to add in.

Little bodies weren't built to sit still. Ten minutes of movement, a few times a day, is plenty to build the habit.
